Peppermint Tinted Lip Balm

Why Choose Our Lip Balms

All of Pure Handmade Haven’s products are made to solve a problem someone has said to me. The very first product made was the Peppermint Tinted Lip Balm.

My family mostly used Carmex since I was a kid. I used it because I didn’t like the plasticky feel that normal Chapstick gave my lips when I used it. Other products didn’t last very long or didn’t help the dry and cracked issue I had with my lips all the time.

I have had psoriasis since I was a kid. This has caused my lips to be very dry, causing cracking and bleeding. If I went to bed without something on my lips, I would wake up in the morning with very cracked and bleeding lips every time. Carmex seemed to help the most with this issue.

I may talk a lot about psoriasis and how this lip balm helps with it for me. First, I am not a doctor and make no claim that any of my products will cure or help with psoriasis or any other diagnoses. This is just my personal experience and what it has done for me. Second, you don’t need to have psoriasis to benefit from this lip balm. My friends and family do not have psoriasis and they love it.

The Switch From Carmex

Some years ago, I started looking closer at the labels of the products I put in and on my body. One of the things I noticed with Carmex is that they do not use many natural ingredients. This was an important thing for me. After a lot of research, I learned that using natural ingredients could help psoriasis symptoms. So, I started trying to make my own lip balm.

Testing Phase

I made 4 different lip balms. I gave some out to family and friends and asked what they thought and which ones they liked better. In the end the Peppermint Tinted Lip Balm came out on top. It lasted longer, felt better, and was the unanimous winner among all friends and family. My favorite thing about it was how long it lasts.

Ingredients

The most important ingredients in Peppermint Tinted Lip Balm are the grapeseed oil and the Vitamin E. Grapeseed oil combined with the coconut oil helps maintain the correct balance of moisture on your lips. Coconut with its antibacterial properties and grapeseed with its antioxidants provides a good healing balance.  The Vitamin E is also an antioxidant and protects the skin from free radical damage. It is also a good preservative for oils so the lip balm will last longer with the use of a natural preservative.

As for the tint in Peppermint Tinted Lip Balm. This tint comes from naturally pigmented mica powder. Everyone who tried the lip balms preferred the tinted version. They felt the non tinted balms were more dull and they did not like that as much. They preferred the fuller more vibrant look the tinted balms gave their lips.

What’s Next

I am in the process of adding different fragrances/flavors to this lip balm recipe. Some common “fun” flavors may not be an option for this brand. If I cannot find a way to use a natural ingredient, then it will not be something you will see here. That being said, if there is something you would like to see, let me know. Leave a comment and tell me your favorite scent/flavor. You never know, one day you might see it for sale here!
